Awkward double “The” in the title, “The Notebook The Musical” is a profound execution of the art form of ‘Musical Theatre.’ It is so much more than simply “let’s write some songs set to the story of this popular book and film and have people sing and dance on stage.”
The execution from staging, lighting, choreography, and, yes the singing and dancing elevates the story so much in ways you really wouldn’t be able to execute in film without it being truly corny.
I don’t know if someone who isn’t already pre-determined to be interested in attending a musical theatre production would be turned into a fan by this production, or even if I would say it’s my favorite musical/soundtrack. But of the ones I’ve seen, I think it may be the best musical when all aspects of it are taken into account.
